The River Tornio, an old route of the Pirkka-men.

The River Tornio will be the first stage in the sailing project. We start from the famous Kukkolankoski Rapids and follow the river till the Gulf of Bothnia. We do it with an old Finnish Sawolax type rowboat, which is well known to be very handy in rocky rivers. 700 hundreds years before the river was the only easy access to Lapland and the route for Pirkka-men to collect the tributes from the Laps for the Swedish Crown. Before we start, we taste in front of open fire blazed lavaret. (local name is loimusiika and the fish is in a wooden stick and prepared with indirect heat radiation). During the trip down the river, we cross several times Finnish - Swedish  border, till we arrive to Tornio and some ours later to our first days destiny Kemi, where we enjoy the Lap reindeer meat delicacy Poronkäristys.
PS. All these above mentioned delicacies belongs to Chef Thor's Aroma Aurora Borealis kitchen.
